Daejeon, located in the center of Korea, is known as the “Middle City”. As a gateway to the Gyeongsang and Jeolla Provinces, it serves as a hub of transportation with outstanding accessibility to major cities in South Korea. The city lies inside a great circle and is surrounded by several mountains.

As of July of 2015, Daejeon was 539.98㎢ wide and home to 1,525,195 people making it the fifth largest city in South Korea.

Daejeon is in a temperate monsoon zone where four seasons prevail, and the temperature is warm and lies within the transition between the humid subtropical and humid continental climatic regimens.
In Daejeon, August is the hottest month with an average temperature of 25.6℃, while it is coldest in January, when the temperature averages -1.0℃. It is hot in the summer and cold in the winter in Daejeon, showing a continental climate.

The city has been promoted as a city of science and education centered about Daedeok Science Town and has been dubbed as the cradle of Korea’s cutting-edge science sector.
Hosting the largest R&D center in Korea, with 30 government-funded research institutes, 19 universities, 400 privately funded business R&D centers, it is locally referred to as “Daedeok Techno Valley”, the Silicon Valley of Korea.
